Back Draft Damper

Description

A backdraft damper is a specialized device used in ventilation and HVAC systems to prevent the reverse flow of air when a fan or exhaust system is not operating.

A backdraft damper is one of the minute pieces needed to help the overall function and purpose of the ventilation system do its job correctly. A backdraft damper is able to allow contaminated air to flow out of the home but prevents contaminated air from sweeping back in to the home. Without a backdraft damper in place, horrid odors that sometime infiltrate a certain room in the home would not have a way of dissipating.

  1. **Functionality**: The primary purpose of a backdraft damper is to block unwanted airflow from outside into a duct or ventilation system when the system is turned off. This helps maintain the desired internal environment by preventing drafts, heat loss, or the entry of contaminants.
  2.  **Design**: Backdraft dampers typically consist of a frame housing with one or more hinged or gravity-operated blades. When air is flowing in the intended direction, the blades open to allow airflow. When the flow reverses or stops, the blades close automatically, sealing the duct and preventing backflow.

An opposed blade damper is a type of airflow control device used in HVAC systems to regulate and balance the flow of air within ducts. Here’s a detailed description:
